Course Syllabus
- TITLE OF COURSE: CSD1701 - MCA/Microsoft Access
- COURSE DESCRIPTION: One credit hour online course.
This course is designed to provide competency based-instruction in a wide assortment of application software in a hands-on environment. This particular course will acquaint the student with the basic principles of using Microsoft Access for database activities. For each unit of
credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and
two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
- PROGRAM ADN/OR DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT:
The CIS Program will provide superior learning opportunities in the area of information technology, utilizing state-of-the-art technology, for both CIS majors and non CIS majors to enable all students to achieve their career and/or educational goals.
- TEXTBOOK AND MATERIAL
- Textbook will be selected when class is offered.
- Student Data Files downloaded from Internet.
- Access to computer with Microsoft Access, Internet, and e-mail account.
- SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes:

- COURSE OUTCOMES:
Upon satisfactory completion of the course competencies, the student should be able to:
- Identify database concepts and typical uses of database applications
- Identify the basic components which make up a database
- Create and modify a database table
- Utilize techniques such as sorting, filtering, and querying
- Implement the use of forms and reports

- Modifying a Database Structure
- Creating Multiple Table Queries
- Developing Forms and Subforms
- Building Complex Reports
- Sharing Information and Improving Reports
- INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS: The course will be delivered to students in an online interactive format via the Internet. Students will be able to read lectures online, ask questions of the instructor via e-mail, and complete textbook lessons, exercises, and exams in the convenience of their own home or office.
- Time Requirements
- Students should expect to spend a minimum of 15 hours to complete the course assignments. A time log will be mandatory for this course. Keep record of all time spent for each unit.
- Instructors will enforce the Academic Honor Code & Cheating Policy as set forth in the SCCC/ATS College Catalog. Students who fail to adhere to this policy will receive an F for the course final grade unless otherwise stated in the instructor’s course policies.
